What is Armored Combat?

Armored combat is a full-contact medieval martial art where fighters don historically accurate steel armor and compete using blunted steel weapons. Real steel on real steel.

Governed by Buhurt International (BI) and similar bodies, armored combat takes place on a defined field where fighters strike, grapple, and work to bring their opponent to the ground.

Part sport, part living history, part martial art.

The 13th Legion

Based in Salt Lake City, the 13th Legion was forged by fighters who believe the martial traditions of armored combat belong in the modern world.

We fight hard, train harder, and hold each other to a standard built on camaraderie, discipline, and craft.

Our focus is steel on steel — but we also train across disciplines. We study historical manuals, work with training daggers, and spar without armor. Whether or not you ever step onto the field in full kit, there's something here for anyone serious about the old ways of fighting.

Beyond tournament competition, we take to the field at Renaissance faires across the region — sharing the sport with anyone curious enough to watch.

On and off the battlefield — Train With Honor. Stand As One.

Camaraderie

We fight for each other. On and off the field, we are one unit.

🛡
Honor

We uphold the traditions and spirit of medieval combat — victory with integrity.

Craft

Excellence in armor, technique, and conditioning. We never stop improving.

Our Mission

As in history, kingdoms in armored combat rise and fall. The 13th Legion is built to outlast the tumult of the field and the ambitions of any one member. We preserve and share the martial traditions of armored combat through public education, safe participation, and community outreach. Above all, we pass on our credo: to Train With Honor and Stand As One.

Forge a tradition of armored combat safe from personal ambition and which benefits the community
🛡
Bring new fighters and squires into the sport and offer education and entertainment to the public
Enhance the tradition of armored combat through broad historical practice and exploration

  • Willingness to train hard
  • Commitment to team practice and events
  • Respect for teammates, opponents, and the traditions of the sport

Beyond the Battlefield

Not every role in the Legion requires armor. Our team runs on more than fighters, and we have a place for everyone willing to show up.
